Active Matter Steam, Xbox, and PlayStation
PC is playable now. Storefronts open 15 September 2026. Transfer Gaijin progress until 23 November.
Active Matter is a paid extraction shooter from Matter Team, published by Gaijin Network Ltd. It is not free-to-play. PC digital is playable today through the Gaijin Store. Steam, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5 storefronts open 15 September 2026. If you already own a Gaijin edition, the important date after that is 23 November 2026: the last day to claim the matching Steam edition and carry progress across.
This page is the storefront brief, not a raid guide. For the content drop that landed just before those storefronts, read 250 Shades of Liberty. For pack contents, read editions compared. For hardware, read system requirements. New operators still want Getting Started before they queue Downtown.
What opens on 15 September 2026
Three storefronts go live the same day:
- Steam (app 2887580)
- Xbox Series X|S
- PlayStation 5
Standard Edition is 29.99 USD/EUR in supported regions. Higher editions (Advanced, Premium, Elite Squad) exist on Gaijin today and are expected as Steam SKUs; Gaijin already sells upgrades for the price difference. Console controller support is playable and still being improved. Keyboard and mouse support for consoles is in the works. Linux and SteamOS are listed on the Steam page; BattlEye runs on Linux, and Steam Deck hardware ran the demos. Kernel BattlEye is mandatory on every platform that uses it.
PC players who bought Early Version on Gaijin keep the launcher. Linking Steam does not revoke that copy. After you link, edition upgrades move to the Steam store for that account. If your Gaijin ID is already tied to a Steam account through another Gaijin title, you must use that same Steam account or progress does not transfer.
Claiming the Steam edition (until 23 November 2026)
Official steps are on Claiming Your Steam Edition. The rules that matter:
- Free Steam access is available until 23 November 2026 (90 days from the 25 August announcement).
- You receive the same edition you bought on Gaijin.
- Elite Squad owners receive Premium on Steam. Extra Standard keys are not duplicated. Friends who redeemed those gifted keys receive Standard on Steam.
- Linking copies launcher progress onto Steam. If you already played the Steam demo, demo progress is replaced by the launcher profile.
- You keep playing through the Gaijin launcher after the link.
- After the link, buy upgrades on Steam, not Gaijin.
Go to the dedicated claim page and sign in with the Gaijin account that holds the purchase. Do this before 23 November 2026. Missing the window does not delete your Gaijin copy; it only drops the free Steam grant.
CAM (Crystallised Active Matter) from an edition is a one-time grant. It is not restored on a wipe. Daily objectives still pay CAM. Credits, stash gear, and replicator queues transfer with the profile; they are not a second edition pack. If you planned to buy Elite Squad only for the two Standard keys, remember those keys stay Standard on Steam.
No planned wipe — Harmonization instead
Matter Team stated there is no planned wipe for the Steam and console storefronts. New players are not meant to land in a mandatory empty economy. The pressure valve is player-driven:
- Self-wipe (self-sacrifice / new personal timeline) after you finish Monolith progression. You choose the reset.
- Harmonization of the Multiverse as a community-scale reset that keeps prestige and edition bonuses.
On a self-wipe you keep CAM balance, discovered map fog, prior self-wipe rewards, Special-shop purchases (containers, beacons, Isolated Raid passes), dog tags, and edition / tester / drop cosmetics (weapons excepted). Edition-exclusive items restore after the wipe — except CAM, which persists as a balance instead of being granted again. You lose credits, stash items, character level, Monolith progress, blueprints, chronogenes, and music-player tracks.
That is why a six-month Gaijin veteran does not auto-stomp every 15 September arrival. Isolated raids, rental kits, and self-wipe rewards exist so a new Standard buyer can learn extracts and anomalies without only meeting fully kitted Reapers. Veterans who want a fair squad with friends can self-wipe on purpose.
Platforms, anti-cheat, and input
Windows 10/11 64-bit is the Gaijin launcher target. Steam also lists Linux / SteamOS with the same CPU, GPU, and 45 GB SSD floor. BattlEye is kernel-level and must be uninstalled manually after you remove the game. Controllers already work; Matter Team is still tuning them. Console keyboard and mouse support is planned. Cross-play details beyond PC launcher plus Steam PC are not the subject of this page — treat console raids as their own storefront queues until official notes say otherwise.
If you are buying for the first time on 15 September, Standard is enough to raid. Advanced is the first pack that adds stash and Replicator queue plus Bouncer and Harpy. Premium is Reaper, triple stash, Bonecrusher, and Robot Dog. Elite Squad is Premium plus two Standard keys for a three-stack. Compare those on editions against system requirements before you pay.
Squad up in the official Discord, follow Active Matter on X, and keep the official FAQ bookmarked for refund and key rules. Gaijin refunds require under two hours played; Elite Squad refunds also deactivate gifted Standard keys. For a player-facing verdict, read the review. For every other patch, return to the Updates Hub.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common questions.
Is Active Matter playable now, or only on 15 September 2026?
PC is playable now through the Gaijin Store. Steam, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5 storefronts open 15 September 2026. Gaijin owners can transfer the same edition and progress to Steam until 23 November 2026.
What edition do I get on Steam if I bought Elite Squad?
Elite Squad owners receive Premium on Steam with the same bonuses but no extra keys. Friends who redeemed the gifted Standard keys receive Standard on Steam.
Is there a wipe when Steam and consoles open?
No planned wipe. Use self-wipe after Monolith completion, or Harmonization as a community reset that keeps prestige and edition bonuses. CAM from an edition is one-time and is not granted again after a wipe.
What happens to my Steam demo progress?
When you link accounts, launcher progress overwrites Steam demo progress. Keep using the same Steam account already tied to your Gaijin ID from other Gaijin games, or the transfer fails.
Can I still upgrade after I link Steam?
Yes, but only through the Steam store for that linked account. Before you link, Gaijin Store upgrades still charge the price difference between editions.
